A Youngster With Vision

It has become more than just a school project, it changing people’s lives. Sydney Mosaheb, 13 started collecting used reading glasses for people but her passion escalated and has become more than just collecting.

She said that she learned to be concerned with other people and that it feels nice to know that you can help other people. It taught her that it is not just about yourself.

"Eyes 4 Tanzania" is the name of her project. She has collected and distributed a total of 20 boxes of glasses.
The collected glasses and empty frames will be brought to the east African country during a bi-annual trip.

These will be delivered and given to the local people through a woman's centre in the city of Moshi located at the Kilimanjaro Region.
“I chose this project because I really wanted to help people in need,” Mosaheb said, explaining that many people live in poverty and cannot afford to buy reading and prescription eye glasses.

She said she was inspired by her parents, who when she was younger would send her used clothing to Africa.
She was also inspired by Karen Yeates, a staff nephrologist and assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University.
Yeates, a member of Canada-Africa Community Health Alliance, was instrumental in developing the woman’s centre and makes regular trips to Tanzania, Mosaheb said.

So far, she said she’s collected close to 100 pairs of glasses and frames, and hopes to collect 250 by the end of March.
“I learned that it’s not all about me,” she said. “In life, you don’t waste, because there’s people out there that don’t have what you have.”

Let this young girl who desire to help less fortunate people be our inspiration. It would be incredible to begin with ourselves. Help ourselves by engaging in Martial Arts to gain confidence and all other stuff needed. Like Mosaheb, she said she was nervous at first because she taught the people will not cooperate. In everything we do, it would be best to have a little tension inside yourself as this will stir the confidence higher. Similarly, when you learn martial arts, you will also encounter all this stuff. But all the people surrounding you inside the gym especially the teachers will never fail to help you. Join Martial Arts aXis now. Call 613 214 2305 or visit www.martialartsaxis.com
