Does Practice Make Perfect For Mixed Martial Arts?

You‘ve heard it a million times before, "Practice makes perfect". In reality, the perfection of anything is close to impossible to achieve, but through persistent practice we can come pretty close in whatever we try our hand at. But what about in the ever evolving world of Mixed Martial Arts?

What is Perfection in Mixed Martial Arts?

What makes someone “perfect” as a MMA fighter? Wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai are the bases for any MMA Fighter. In the beginning we all begin as white belts and will remain white belts unless we practice persistently.

You will never go to a mixed martial arts school where the instructor is giving out black belts to people who don't practice and earn their stripes. Through the trials and persistence of practice and training one begins to excel in the various martial art styles in mixed martial arts. Even so, the Black Belt status does not mean you have perfected and mastered the art of jiu-jitsu or any style that you are studying.

There is an endless amount of knowledge to acquire, especially considering is MIXED MARTIAL ARTS and therefore it is impossible to perfect. To perfect something you must do everything perfectly always.

Good Mixed Martial Arts vs. Perfect Mixed Martial Arts

Everything perfect ALWAYS? There are 3 things to consider. First, in order to perfect an art like judo or jiu-jitsu you must know everything there is to possibly know about it. This is pretty much an impossible feat within itself, since mixed martial arts are an forever evolving and changing. Second, you must be able to apply and execute these individual skills flawlessly AND combine them all in perfect harmony, each and every time. Lastly, not only must you know and be able to execute everything perfectly, but you must be able to do it forever throughout your mixed martial arts career.

Are we really ever going to be able to perfect this new sweet science called MMA? Will there ever be a day when you can say, "Well, I’m done. There is nothing left for me to learn in mixed martial arts. I have perfected it all." Not very likely; however, there is a process of “striving for perfection,” and the secret is in the desire.

Desire is the difference between the good and the great. Desire gets you up earlier. Desire makes you the last one to leave the gym. Desire gives you one more rep. It’s the never say die attitude that drives you to become an amazing mixed martial artist.

Mixed Martial Arts Mastery

There’s a big difference between those who desire to get a black belt and who practices diligently to get it and those who simply say they would like to have a black belt one day. The difference is in the level of desire. The difference is that one will receive the black belt and the other won't. One has a desire that over rules the laziness and circumstances that prevent them from practicing persistently.

The only question is, “which guy do you want to be?”
